Fitbit vs. Polar FT4

I’ve had this Fitbit Charge HR for about 4 weeks and I’ve had my Polar FT4 for about 2 years now.

Fitbit is great if want to know how many hours  I sleep, my daily calorie burn, and my steps. However, I don’t really need to know those things but it is cool to know. The cons are that I hate wearing it on my arm all the time and it doesn’t work effectively for me when working out. As you can see above, the heart rate on the fitbit is usually off.

The Polar FT4 is great because I only use it when working out. It’s purpose for me is to only count the number of calories that I burn when active. The band that goes around your waist isn’t horrible but you should wash it every so often.

Total Weight Goals

 

Goals

As of today these are my total weight goals, but I understand that they can change as time goes on.

I want to lose a total of 100 pounds. Sounds like a big number right? No, not really. I’ve done it before, maybe I can do it again?

Since I’m 11 down, that’s 89 more to go. With my estimations, I think I could do that by mid October 2016, if I decide to stick with 100. Sometimes my number goes down to a total of 80. I figure that If I lose 100, that will give me wiggle room if I gain back 15 or so. It happens.

I stand 5’9 tall and I enjoy having weight in my legs and booty. I do enjoy having muscular legs too. If I can get that booty to grow and sit up more, that would be great. I think I can pull off 100 pounds slowly especially if it’s coming from my tummy. Honestly, I’ll just be happy when I can fit into my size 10 pants again.

By New Years Day: Hope to lose 37 total

By mid March: Hope to lose 57 total

By my June birthday: Hope to lose 79 total – and I could stop there

I hope these goals sounds semi- realistic. They are mostly losing 1- 2 pounds a week with the exception of holidays when I know I will not be as fitness conscious.

Does Dating Make You Fat?

I went on another date this past week. Not that I’m complaining about dating but I ate/drank a bunch of empty calories that I normally would not have.

I met Ken at a restaurant near my apartment in Manhattan for our first date. This restaurant is known for being trendy, having dark lighting and great food.  The initial meeting was very warm and since we had been chatting on the phone for about two weeks. He was very attentive to what I wanted to eat so he could relay the message to the waiter. Such a gentleman like thing to do, I can’t remember the last time a man ordered for me. I’m not even sure if I prefer that.

I decided on a Kale Caesar Salad (yum), a side of mac and cheese and a glass of chardonnay. Ken wanted to match my meal and drinks, which wasn’t called for, just order what you want dude. Those were barely in my calorie allotments for the day since I skipped the gym for that day. Actually, my favorite class with Charles Jackson was full and I didn’t have time between work and the date to work out.

Ken and I split my mac and cheese and salad while he ate his rib sliders. I loved the idea of splitting because that way I could slide on the mac and cheese calories. However, I decided to order another glass of chardonnay, and then Ken suggested we both try Strawberry Mojitos. That’s drink #3 and I felt  horrible about not wanting to accept these drinks. Right before our 4th drink, he mentioned that he wanted to do something else, so we left for a hookah spot. Of course, he insisted that we get more drinks at the hookah spot. UGH, more drinks. I promise I don’t drink that much normally. We smoked hookah at a lounge and I ordered my favorite drink, Prosecco. I did a very smart thing and sipped on that one glass for two hours. I was done. Ken proceeded to order two Jack Daniels straight. Eventually he started to sweat a lot too. Hahaha.

Overall, the date with Ken was a good date and I noticed a lot of smiling from his end. If I’m going to continue to date, I’m going to have to figure out healthy options to eat and drink without seeming so focused on it. To go on a date and refuse to drink or eat certain things is very weird. I definitely don’t need any help on being weird, I just need dating to not make me gain more weight.

Fitness Kick

Every 4-6 months, I get on a fitness kick. That involves eating healthy and working out. The goal is to lose weight. It’s been very successful for me a few times. The first time was in 2010 when in a 3 month period I lost 30-35 pounds. That jump-started a whole new life for me with losing about 110 pounds. From there I worked out and shrank to my lowest weight. I was around 160-165, standing 5’9. Good Times! I wore little clothing but I still had the loose skin on my stomach, upper arms, and inner thigh.

I maintained for a few years until lower back surgery in 2012 slowed me down for another year or so. It’s such a cycle and such an early cycle for a 24 year old. I was able to get back into the groove in 2013 by losing some more weight after the surgery’s gain. Then again, I gained again after letting work become my priority.

It’s 2015 and I’ve started again. Yay! Finally, I feel like i’m ready to jump-start my fitness life again. I am currently down 6 pounds since two weeks with a goal of losing 80 pounds. That seems like such a big number but it’s not really. Let’s see how far I can get.
